Serve On Ice

Cold Busted Records happened almost by accident. Label owner, DJ Vitamin D, asked then "house" producer Gramtik to release a bunch of sample based trip hop made as a teenager. The release, Street Bangerz Vol. 1, was a hit and spearheaded the labels rise. The third edition of the Street Bangerz series was just recently released along side a cornucopia of great EPs from up and coming artists. The music is fresh and contemporary while maintaing the soul of its roots. The style ranges from abstract, jazzy electronica to instrumental hip-hop to deep house, while always staying true to the Cold Busted nature, super chill.

"With our artwork inspired from the 60’s and 70’s we are trying to capture the sound of today with the looks from the past." - Cold Busted Records

Will Calcutt

Will Calcutt is a New York based designer and photographer (and Michigan Native!). Above is a compilation of album covers he did for Ghostly Internationl, extended from the work below. He also does work for the record labels; Minus, Kranky, and Get Physical. As you can see his style is pretty uninhibited, which I really like.

This time of year we desperately soak up the last rays of sun as we know fall will soon be ringing with the dark echoes of winter. As warm sunny days amble to snowy midwestern nights, the passion and excitement of summer lend themselves to the nostalgic feelings of Autumn. Personally my musical tastes change as well. The happy unassuming songs of summer fail to arouse and more moody sounds take their place.
Below is a list of lo-fi, downtempo, and electronica that will help your soul relax and mind expand. It's perfect for a quiet night of reflective thought. So grab the most comfortable chair on your porch, light a candle, roll a splif, and enjoy!

The above artwork was done by Will Calcutt for the cover of Matthew Dear's album "Black City".

DOIN' IT!

This is one of the original infamous "Soul Train" Line Dances. It is were much of modern dance originated from. Whenever I'm feeling down I watch this and it never fails to put a smile on face!
